How to Differentiate Momentary and Long-Term Business Trends?

Not all businesses that are booming will last long. We often see products suddenly go viral, sales increase drastically, then a few months later almost no one is talking about them anymore. The problem is, when we see other people making a lot of money from a trend, it's easy to feel like we have to jump on board before it's too late. However, this trend does not necessarily have long-lasting demand. Before jumping in, I'll see if the product solves a real need or is just grabbing attention because it's popular.

Also pay attention to whether demand is consistent, whether customers make repeat purchases, whether profit margins are reasonable, and whether the business will still have a market when the trend stops. Long-term business usually doesn't just depend on virality. There are emerging needs, returning customers, and business models that can evolve with changing times. Trends are not always bad. In fact, trends can be an interesting entry point if we are able to turn temporary attention into long-term customers. So don't just look at how popular a product is today. Also see if there's a reason for people to still need it when the hype is over.
