The simplest difference between an achievement-based curriculum or Outcome-Based Education and a traditional approach is the focus point. In an achievement-based approach, the main question is what abilities students should actually have after completing the learning process. So it's not just how much material the teacher has delivered, but whether students are able to demonstrate the competencies that are the learning objectives. Materials, teaching methods, activities and assessments are then designed to support these achievements.
In the traditional approach, the learning process is often more centered on delivering material and completing the curriculum. Students may have taken all the lessons and taken exams, but may not necessarily be able to apply this knowledge in real situations. This doesn't mean that traditional approaches are always bad or that automatic OBEs always work. The results remain highly dependent on how the curriculum is designed and implemented. OBE requires clear objectives, appropriate assessment methods, and learning that truly gives students the opportunity to demonstrate their abilities. If you just change the terms without changing the way you learn and assess, the results will certainly not be much different.
