As the Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia approached, social media was filled with various posts calling on the public not to take part in the August 17 celebrations as a form of conveying aspirations and criticism of the conditions felt by some residents.
The call elicited a variety of responses.
Until now, there is no evidence that this call represents or is followed by the majority of Indonesian society.
