Why Can We Hear Echoes?

Echoes occur when sound waves bounce off surfaces such as cliffs, buildings, or large walls.

If the reflection comes a little late, our ears will hear the sound as if it is being repeated a second time.

That's why echoes are easiest to hear in large areas and with minimal objects that absorb sound.
