Bats don't rely only on their eyesight to navigate in darkness. Many bat species use echolocation, a biological ability that involves producing sounds and listening to the echoes that return.
As they fly, bats produce high-frequency sounds that bounce back when they encounter objects around them. By processing these echoes, bats can estimate the position and distance of objects and detect movement.
This ability is especially useful when hunting at night. Bats can detect small insects moving through the air even when there is very little visible light.
Interestingly, not all bats use echolocation in exactly the same way. The sounds and patterns can vary between species depending on their environment and whether they are hunting, navigating, or avoiding obstacles.
