Social media allows people to communicate with anyone, but at the same time makes it much easier for differences of belief to turn into conflict. A comment that actually just wants to convey an opinion can be considered an attack by other people, especially when the discussion concerns religion. The problem becomes even greater when people immediately share video clips, quotes, or information without checking the context first.
In my opinion, one of the simplest forms of tolerance is learning to restrain yourself before typing. Not all differences must be reciprocated and not all comments must be won over. If you want to criticize a religious opinion, criticize the argument without insulting the people who believe it. Also avoid spreading content that deliberately incites hatred towards certain groups just because you want to get lots of comments or attention.
We also need to distinguish between freedom of expression and insult. Everyone has the right to practice and express their beliefs, but this freedom still needs to be used responsibly. If the discussion has turned into mutual insults, sometimes the best option is to stop continuing the conversation. In my opinion, tolerance does not mean that everyone has to have the same beliefs, but is able to live and communicate with different people without feeling the need to put them down.
