On Thursday, July 23, 2026, the Indonesian Survey Institute, or LSI, released its latest evaluation of the West Java provincial government after roughly one year and five months under Governor Dedi Mulyadi and Deputy Governor Erwan Setiawan. One of the biggest findings was Dedi's approval rating, which reached 95.4%. That figure combined 39.3% of respondents who said they were very satisfied and another 56.1% who said they were fairly satisfied.
The survey was conducted from July 2 to 9, 2026, across all 27 regencies and cities in West Java. LSI used a multistage random sampling method and interviewed 800 respondents distributed proportionally across the province. The findings were presented by LSI Executive Director Djayadi Hanan in Bandung on July 23.
Djayadi said the high approval rating cannot be explained by a single issue. It reflects a combination of how residents view the provincial government's performance, Dedi's public profile, and his communication style. LSI also found that Dedi's recognition among West Java residents was close to 100%, meaning that most people in the province are highly familiar with the governor and his activities.
Social media was another factor highlighted by the survey. Internet penetration in West Java stands at around 84%, making social media an important channel through which residents receive information about their government. According to Djayadi, Dedi's frequent and generally positive social media content has helped shape how people perceive his work.
The public's assessment of government performance also played a role. More than 64% of respondents rated the provincial government's overall administration positively. On the economic side, 44% considered the regional economy to be stable or moderate. Public services, particularly infrastructure, healthcare, and education, were also part of the overall evaluation.
At the same time, high approval does not mean residents are familiar with every government program. LSI found that awareness of several flagship provincial programs remained below 50%. In other words, being satisfied with a governor's performance and knowing the details of individual policies are not necessarily the same thing.
Djayadi said the survey did not measure the exact contribution of each individual factor to the 95.4% approval figure. Still, the governor's personal profile and the implementation of government programs stood out as two of the most visible factors behind the positive public assessment.
The result is particularly notable because Dedi Mulyadi is also receiving growing national attention in political polling. Approval as a governor and presidential electability, however, are different measurements. One reflects how residents judge a leader's performance in office, while the other measures political preferences within a specific election simulation.See More
