In a report published by SINDOnews on Friday, July 31, 2026, Prabowo's remarks came after he attended a mass signing event for subsidized FLPP housing loans in Batang, Central Java, on Thursday, July 30.
Prabowo said Indonesia still faces a huge demand for housing, meaning the government cannot simply rely on existing methods. He pointed to India as one example worth studying, saying the country had built around 40 million homes over 12 years, or roughly 3 million homes each year. He said Indonesia was looking into the techniques behind that achievement and considering how they might be adapted.
The president also made a broader point about learning from other countries. In his view, Indonesia should not hesitate to study policies, technologies, or methods that have worked elsewhere as long as they can ultimately benefit Indonesian citizens.
The discussion comes as the government continues to expand housing programs aimed at making home ownership more accessible, including the FLPP financing scheme for lower-income households. The challenge is not simply building more units, but doing it quickly enough and at a scale that matches the country's housing needs.
