The incident happened on Thursday, July 30, 2026, while the aircraft was en route to Soekarno-Hatta Airport.
After the aircraft landed, the airline's aviation security officers reported the incident and handed the passenger over to officials from the regional airport authority. Airport security officers at Soekarno-Hatta also assisted with the handling of the situation. Airport operations continued normally throughout the process.
The power bank was later identified as having a capacity of 37 watt-hours. That capacity is still below the threshold allowed for passengers to bring a power bank into the aircraft cabin under Indonesia's current aviation rules.
The regulations cited by the airport include the Directorate General of Civil Aviation Circular No. 15 of 2018 and Transportation Ministry Decree No. 39 of 2024. Power banks below 100 Wh are allowed in the cabin. Devices rated between 100 and 160 Wh require airline approval during check-in, while units above 160 Wh or those with an unknown capacity are not permitted on flights.
Power banks must also be carried in the cabin rather than checked baggage. Passengers are prohibited from using them during the flight to charge electronic devices or recharge the power bank itself, and each passenger is limited to a maximum of two power banks.
The incident is a reminder that being within the permitted capacity limit does not mean a power bank carries zero risk. Battery condition, proper handling, and compliance with airline safety procedures still matter when bringing lithium-battery devices onto an aircraft.See More
