Have you ever thought about whether a hybrid car battery can be charged again without having to frequently plug it into a charger? One source of energy turns out to come from something we do every time the car slows down, namely braking.
In hybrid cars, there is a regenerative braking system. When the car slows down, some of the motion energy that is usually wasted as heat in the brakes can be converted into electrical energy by the electric motor, then stored back into the battery.
Therefore, when you release the gas pedal or press the brake, a hybrid car can feel a little different than a regular petrol car. The system is taking advantage of the moment of deceleration to reclaim some energy.
Of course, the battery still has limits and hybrid cars also use a petrol engine as a power source. But this ability to return energy during deceleration is what helps make the hybrid system more efficient under certain driving conditions.
